Rain, sleet, snow, sun, sickness, day after day, like Roscoe & Wale’s hit song, “I did it with no hand.” Today my life entails a high-productivity schedule starting at 5 AM, booked from sun up to sun down. My often overwhelming and exhausting schedule managing business projects and parenting never stops. So let me be honest, there are particular times when I feel I am missing something- scrolling social media and witnessing human self-destruction and self-gratification helps me realize my life is good!
I embrace Prince, and I’s daily activities and weekend excursions as “a savior of life.”Allowing me to love simple things like; a trip to the beach buried in the sand, kayaking on the lake, a walk in the park connecting with nature’s beautiful green trees and animals, or enjoying a quiet evening at home cooking fun foods and watching Disney movies. The fact is, there is a serene joy to childbirth at an “advanced maternal age,” a term used to describe pregnancies over the age of 35. If I was told having children later in life would obstruct my self-destruction and grant me an appreciation of time and space, I would’ve said ridiculous.
To all the “advance maternal-aged parents” who are trying to find balance, patience, and enough space for themselves, you are not alone. In 2023, let us become committed to being comfortable in our skin and space, enjoying the moment, appreciating the beauty of nature, and taking pleasure in the changing seasons. I am committed to embracing my decision to become a parent after age 35, realizing the joy of children is refreshing, although challenging. Let us all rejoice in the New Year and that God is good!
